Cowan's design is inspired by the moon landing and space race of the 1960s, a subject she has always found fascinating. She enjoys engaging the juxtaposition of futuristic style with contemporary history in her art, which can be seen in her work, expanding from mezuzahs to Seder plates. In May 2008, her Apollo mezuzah and her Shuttle mezuzah were given clearance by NASA to launch with Expedition 17.
