Wedding Smash Glass Set by LOBMEYR for the Jewish Museum
The tradition of breaking the glass at a Jewish wedding reminds us of the fragility of marriage; “as this glass shatters, so may your marriage never break.” It also symbolizes the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem, so that even in the height of happiness, we remember the suffering of the Jewish people and the need for healing in the world.
Produced by LOBMEYR exclusively for the Jewish Museum, the set includes two fine crystal glasses: one is unadorned and is meant to be broken during the wedding ceremony, and the other, masterfully hand engraved with a faux 'crack,' is to be used in toasting the couple each wedding anniversary. Made in Vienna, Austria.
