    Overview

This menorah inspired by the architecture of Beth Sholom Synagogue, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The menorah is made from concrete with silver candle cups.

The work of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized worldwide as pivotal to the development of modern architecture. Through a deep understanding of our relationship with the natural world, Wright's ideas and designs were inspired by organic forms. His vision, "to make life more beautiful, the world a better one for living in, and to give rhyme, reason, and meaning to life" is carried on through the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and represented on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Completed in 1959 in Elkins Park, PA, Beth Sholom Synagogue is Wright's only synagogue among a relatively small number of religious commissions and stll has an active congregation. Its power as a building stemmed from the fruitful collaboration between Wright and the congregation's Rabbi, Mortimer J. Cohen, and is symbolically and liturgically grounded in Judaic tradition. The synagogue's glass pyramic is an unforgettable presence in the suburban Philadelphia landscape, day or night. The synagogue is open for docent-led tours. Beth Sholom was listed as a national historic landmark in 2007.
