Members $135.00 Made by artist Julia Steiman, this ceramic mezuzah features a bubbling fountain with a spray of water rising from the center. The shin is cleverly incorporated into the water's spray. The beautiful design is inspired by classical Jewish folk art motifs of plenty, such as flowers, fruit, arches and fountains.
These mezuzot were inspired by 19th century Jewish paper cuts and the glowing, watery blues of the mosaic floors and stained glass in the synagogue at NYC's Museum at Eldridge Street.
Each mezuzah begins with a stamp made from layers of material, much like the paper cuts that inspired the line. The stamp is impressed into clay, which is then draped over a mold and further carved and refined. After painting and glazing, the pieces emerge from the kiln shining like jewels.
Kosher mezuzah scroll sold separately. Once rolled, the scroll sits inside the open compartment on the back. The opening for the scroll is 2.5" H with a 3.5"H inner compartment. The mezuzah features key holes for hanging. Nails or tape not included.
