This limited edition OY/YO sculpture is based on artist Deborah Kass's original vibrant yellow OY/YO sculpture which seeks to evoke joy and unity in its playful monumentalizing of classic New York slang. The work uses the city's culturally specific, yet universal lingo to communicate the collective pride and exasperation of living here with the twinned words oy (a Yiddish exclamation of alarm or bother) and yo (an omnipresent New York greeting). Installed for a limited time in Brooklyn Bridge Park, OY/YO became an instant New York icon for tourists and residents of all backgrounds. An OY/YO sculpture is included in the collection of the Jewish Museum.
Produced by Lococo Fine Art Publishing, this sculpture is made from solid aluminum with yellow powder coat buffed to a high gloss and mounted on a polished aluminum base. Each is signed by the artist and numbered.
