All Our Light Menorah by Julia Steiman

This hand-made ceramic menorah by New York Artist Julia Steiman is based on a popular Hanukkah song called Banu Choshech Legaresh, about light overcoming darkness. Light from individual homes is represented by windows (one of which has a traditional menorah formpictured inside) and the Hanukkah candles themselves. Collective light and cumulative impact of a community’s good deeds is represented by the dynamic shared night sky. From behind, the candlelight shines through the holes in the menorah and resemble twinkling stars.

Julia Steiman designs in conversation with traditional Jewish folk art techniques and motifs, alongside her own conceptual and aesthetic explorations. The rich history of Jewish design is a launchpad for ceremonial objects that feel surprising, personal and resonant to her community.
