Oshia in Hebrew 'אָשְׁיָה' translates to basis, fundamental, element, source. Designed by Lia Bruce of SaltwareDesign, the Oshia Kiddush Cup is derived from this meaning. Handmade from pure salt from the Holy Land and featuring a sleek anodized aluminum cup, it adds natural elements and elegant design to Shabbat and holiday observances.
Lia Bruce studied architecture at the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa followed by a degree in fine art at Ramat Hasharon School of Art and a Master's degree in industrial design at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Lia's interest in salt started with her early artworks, mainly installations she made with salt grains. In her research during her Master’s degree she continued her experiments with the raw material. Saltware evolved out of collaboration with the Chemistry Research Institute at the Hebrew university which developed an innovative way to use salt as a raw material in the industry. SaltwareDesign combines the natural features of salt and its long meaningful heritage in culture and spirit. All SaltwareDesign artefacts are hand-made in her workshop in Israel.
