Chagall Seder Plate Set by Bernardaud

In 1959, Marc Chagall was commissioned by the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center to create 12 stained-glass windows, which would symbolize the 12 tribes of Israel. The image on this Seder plate set is Chagall's dream-like interpretation of the Joseph Tribe. Marc Chagall (1887-1985), a Russian-French artist, was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century. He was an early modernist and worked in virtually every artistic medium, including: painting, book illustration, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art painting. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum.
