This stunning menorah is a reproduction of a David Heinz Gumbel Hanukkah lamp from Germany c. 1930. The original was fashioned in sterling silver. This reproduction will not tarnish and is available as a numbered edition of 1,000 in cooperation with "Malka Cohavi & Studio D.H. Gumbel."
Gumbel, a master silversmith, was greatly influenced by the Bauhaus teachings and incorporated its design aesthetic into his Judaica, as seen in the sleek, elegant proportions of this menorah. Gumbel fled his native Germany to Palestine shortly after this lamp was made and joined the faculty of the famed Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel.
This meneroah is included in
Design Edition JM,
a curated selection of modern and contemporary Jewish ritual objects by extraordinary designers commissioned and collected by The Jewish Museum.
