The Jewish Museum Classic Modern Menorah
This stunning
menorah
is a reproduction of a David H. Gumbel
Hanukkah
lamp from Germany c. 1930, which is part of the permanent collection of The Jewish Museum.
The original was fashioned of sterling silver. This reproduction was crafted in argentum pewter, which will not tarnish, in a numbered edition of 1,000 in cooperation with "Malka Cohavi & Studio D.H. Gumbel".
Master silversmith David Heinz Gumbel was greatly influenced by the Bauhaus teachings and incorporated its design aesthetic into his Judaica, as seen in the sleek, elegant proportions of this
menorah
. Gumbel fled his native Germany to Palestine, shortly after this lamp was made, and joined the faculty of the famed Bezalel School in Israel.
