by Coral & Tusk exclusively for The Jewish Museum Shop

The Jewish Museum Shop invited local artisans to design contemporary products inspired by the art in the exhibition, Edouard Vuillard: A Painter and His Muses, 1890-1940.

Embroidery and textile designer Stephanie Housley of Coral & Tusk created this fantasy scene inspired by the fanciful furniture and formal settings in Vuillard's paintings. Housley, known for whimsical animals in her own work, imagined what would happen when Vuillard's sitter or "Ms." was away.  The animals would play on the furniture, of course!

Housley first pencil sketches her image, then creates an embroidery file of the art, where she choose the thread colors that will complete her work.  Each piece is embroidered on 100% natural linen and framed in a white wooden box frame with a glass front.  Made in New York City.
