The windows on the Apollo spacecraft inspired the abstract Shin featured on this mezuzah, designed by Israeli artist Laura Cowan. Made in Israel.

Cowan is a celebrated Judaica artist whose work is featured in galleries around the world. She graduated from London's Guildhall University with a degree in silversmithing and put her talent with metal working toward a career mixing her craft and her heritage.  Now in her studio in Tel Aviv, she reinvents traditional Judaica with her innovative style.

Cowan’s designs are inspired by the moon landing and space race of the 1960s, a subject she has always found fascinating.  She enjoys engaging the juxtaposition of futuristic style with contemporary history in her art, which can be seen in her work, expanding from mezuzahs to Seder plates.  In May 2008, her Apollo mezuzah and her Shuttle mezuzah were given clearance by NASA to launch with Expedition 17.
