Introduction by Arthur Green
A World Apart Next Door focuses on some of the most typical features of Hasidic life - the veneration of the Rebbe, special customs, and rich traditions of dress that distinguish the Hasidim as a group. The aim of this book is not to present the fascinating history and philosophy of Hasidism, but to open a window onto the experience of people today, through the community's material culture: a selection of daily and ceremonial objects, together with an extensive presentation of Hasidic costume and it's nuances of form and meaning. The World Apart Next Door was published by The Israel Museum.
