Overview

American-born designer Michael Aram created this seder plate inspired by the form of pomegranates -- a symbol of eternity, fertility and plenty. It is an age-old image that crosses cultures, transcends time and is one of the seven species of Israel. Aram included seven bowls rather than six, so the seder plate can hold the six symbolic seder foods and an orange, which honors the contributions of women.

Aram, who works primarily in metal, studied fine art and worked in New York until the late 1980s,  when he took a life-altering trip to India. He now lives and works in New Delhi.

Designer Info

Michael Aram is an American-born artist who works primarily in metal. After studying fine art and living as an artist in New York in the late 1980's, Aram took a life-altering trip to India where he discovered the rich traditions of metal working. Inspired to work with craftsmen whose skills he felt were greatly untapped, he turned his creative focus toward craft based design and set up a home and workshop in New Delhi. Through a handmade process, each Michael Aram piece combines traditional metal techniques with contemporary, narrative design. Fittingly, aram in Hindi means "gently, with peace, with love and care".
