This Star of David design is adapted from a 20th-century American or European Torah Ark valance, originally crafted in gold braid on fabric, and found in the permanent collection of The Jewish Museum. In this re-creation, the star is skillfully executed in sterling silver and features a blue topaz cabochon at either end of the toggle bar. The necklace is designed to be worn with the toggle in the front that features the Star of David gracefully hanging in the center.
A Torah Ark curtain (or valance), located on the front of an ark, is used to protect the delicate Torah scrolls from damage and becomes a decorative element. The Ark is generally located in a prominent place in a synagogue.
